There are 800,000 people in the UK with varying degrees of Dementia. With ever improving Health, Technology and Drugs life expectancy will go up but unfortunately the likely hood is Dementia cases will double over the next 40 years.
Dementia can be diagnosed at any age and there is no cure. This may mean that families income is effected to support the care of others. Carers UK project that “6.5 Million people have significant caring duties but this will reach 9 million by 2037”
So how can we finance the ongoing caring needs of our family? Yes we could look at a critical illness plan which would pay a tax free lump if a condition on the plan on the plan meeting the severity was diagnosed. However, once that is spent its gone. So many families are starting to look at a blend of critical illness protection with income protection. Income protection can give an ongoing monthly amount of monies if our GP stats we are unfit to work. This protection can be made for a couple of years or up to retirement meaning our know costs like the Mortgage, pension payments, utilities and the shopping bills are met.
